Food as Medicine: How Naturopathic Doctors Use Nutrition to Treat Chronic Health Issues

ByDanielle Brunet March 29, 2023

Dr. Meister and Dr. Axtell were recently invited to speak with Steph Brown of TMJ4 to discuss the growing popularity of naturopathic medicine and how we use food as medicine to address chronic health conditions in the clinic. During our interview, we highlighted the importance of individualized care and the power of nutrition to transform our bodies from the inside out.

As naturopathic doctors (ND), we know that food is so much more than calories or fuel. It is information for our cells. Food can regulate gene expression, it can increase or decrease inflammation, it can balance hormones, it can modulate the immune system. It can be the source of what is ailing us or the most powerful medicine.

We believe that naturopathic medicine offers a unique approach to healthcare that empowers patients to take control of their own health. Teaching patients how to eat, relax, exercise, and nurture themselves physically and emotionally is an integral part of our philosophy.  It is about shifting the balance of power back to the patient through education, information, and connection.  NDs know that personal education and empowerment is the only prescription that can create permanent change leading to better health.

If you are interested in learning more about naturopathic medicine or want to explore how food can be used as medicine to address your chronic health conditions, we invite you to watch our full interview with Steph Brown of TMJ4. We hope that our conversation will inspire and empower you to take control of your own health and embark on a journey of wellness and vitality.
