Like naturopathic medicine, functional medicine aims to address the root cause(s) of disease, including triggers such as nutrient deficiencies, imbalances of the microbiome, stress, toxins, food allergies or sensitivities, and/or genetics. Functional lab tests, such as stool, saliva or blood tests, help identify root cause(s).
Once triggers are identified, the functional medicine practitioner will create an individualized wellness plan to address the imbalances.
Dr. Mackenzie Prentice is our functional medicine practitioner here at Lakeside Natural Medicine. Consistent with our value of “food as medicine” here at Lakeside, she uses nutrition as first-line therapy. She can also recommend herbs and supplements along with prescription medications when necessary or indicated. She integrates western medicine with alternative medicine with the goal of optimizing the function of your body at its highest level.
Naturopathic wellness services are not a substitute for diagnosis and treatment from your medical treatment provider.
