The longest lived people aren’t doing CrossFit or living off $15 protein shakes. Their secrets are a lot more… human.

On my morning walks in Greece, I’d watch groups of women swimming together in the sea.  It was beautiful- one of my favorite memories of my trip. It struck me how these swims weren’t just about physical health, but also a celebration of social connection- reminding me that community is vital for a long fulfilling life.

They aren’t hitting the gym every day or following a certain “diet” perse. they’re moving naturally —biking, swimming, tending to gardens, and walking to the market. They eat locally grown food- a lot of plants and lot of olive oil, made with a lot of love.

My perspective on food as medicine and how it relates to longevity is that we don’t need to go to extremes to live long and live well. We can make simple decisions every day to help us that are supported by science that boosts our mood and memory, promotes a healthy metabolism, puts us in better cardiovascular health, keeps our skeleton and our frame in good shape so we can stay active. We want to be able to enjoy our lives as we lengthen our lives.

The Mediterranean way isn’t a trend or quick fix- it’s timeless habits we can all embrace to live longer, healthier, and more meaningful lives.
