Why I’m obsessed with matcha…and you should be too!

Top 7 reasons why this is my favorite morning beverage:
- Less acidic than coffee and easier on digestion. Coffee irritates my stomach while matcha is gentle on my gut. If you struggle with acid reflux, gastritis, and/or IBS, switching from coffee to matcha could be a game changer!
- Balanced cortisol. Coffee can send my cortisol soaring, resulting in jitters and squirrely anxiety. Matcha, on the other hand, makes me feel calm, energized, and balanced – a smoother, more sustainable buzz. I like to think of it as a “relaxed stimulant.”
- Better sleep. Coffee disrupts my sleep (even if I drink it at 7 am). In your 40’s and beyond, poor sleep hits harder! Get the caffeine perks without the sleep sabotage with matcha.
- Memory and focus. I have a strong family history of Alzheimer’s, and I’m determined to do everything I can to prevent it. Both coffee and green tea have a protective effect for the brain, but when it comes to coffee, the risks (poor sleep!) don’t outweigh the benefits for me. Matcha’s combo of caffeine and L-theanine keeps me focused, calm, and productive – even on my most chaotic days.
- Hormone-balance. Matcha promotes healthy estrogen metabolism thanks to the EGCG content. Say goodbye to estrogen dominant symptoms, such as breast tenderness, bloating, cramps, and PMS.
- Anti-Aging. Matcha is loaded with antioxidants, particularly catechins, which fight free radicals and reduce signs of aging. Plus, chlorophyll, the element that gives matcha its signature vibrant color, detoxifies and helps eliminate toxins, leaving your skin brighter. Glow from the inside out!
- Metabolism boost. Become a lean green machine with matcha, which improves thermogenesis (ie. how many calories you burn), fat oxidation (fat breakdown), and insulin sensitivity.
Does matcha contain caffeine?
Yes! But it’s different than coffee.
Matcha vs. Coffee
70 mg (slow release thanks to L-theanine) 95 mg (quick jolt but often followed by jitters and crash)
