Keep Calm and Balance Hormones with Inositol
BySarah Axtell, ND •July 17, 2019
Inositol was once previously considered a B vitamin, but it is now considered a pseudo-vitamin and is found primarily in whole grains, citrus fruits, and beans. It is commonly used for blood sugar regulation and treating polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), but it is also is shown to be effective in treating anxiety and panic attacks, OCD, depression, and Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).
There are two different forms of inositol: Myo-inositol and D-chiro inositol. Myo-inositol, the most common supplemental form of inositol, is a small compound structurally similar to glucose and thus helps regulate blood sugar. D-chiro inositol is best for balancing testosterone levels and thus works well for acne and PCOS.
Talk to your naturopathic doctor about the best dose and form for you.
