Dr. Ailsa Freytag, ND
As a Naturopathic Doctor, I specialize in gastrointestinal conditions. I believe healing starts with understanding the root cause, not just managing symptoms. Combining evidence-based diet and lifestyle medicine with mind-body approaches, I help patients rebuild lasting digestive wellness. I manage each patient as an individual, using functional testing when needed and leaning on nutrition, botanical medicine, supplements, and mind-body practices to bring a whole-person perspective to gastrointestinal care. My primary goal is to help you feel empowered and at home in your body again.
My practice focuses on gastrointestinal disorders such as GERD, IBS, IBD, SIBO, constipation, and optimizing the microbiome. I’ve learned from my own experience that supporting gut health requires an integrated approach, often addressing the nervous system in addition to nutritional and lifestyle factors. Everyone with a GI condition experiences it in their own way, and I believe your care should match that uniqueness.
I earned both my Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine and Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from Bastyr University in Kenmore, WA. In my undergraduate years, I learned that food is medicine and a foundation of health. I started writing and sharing healthy recipes because I believe eating well should be fun and delicious. That passion ultimately grew into my love for the gastrointestinal system during medical school, and remains my area of interest today.
I have additional training in functional medicine and visceral manipulation therapy, a physical therapy that addresses the fascia system around the abdominal organs. My approach integrates principles of naturopathic and functional medicine with my experience in nutrition, training in visceral manipulation therapy, and lessons learned from multiple GI mentorship programs and training from some of the most renowned GI experts in the country.
As we work together, I will meet you where you are and help you build a system for health that fits seamlessly with your life. Feeling well doesn’t need to feel like a big project; you just need the right people on your team to help you get there.
When I’m not in the clinic, you can find me outdoors, ideally by the water. I also enjoy making nourishing recipes, moving my body, and knitting (my newest hobby).
